This week:

1. Experimental results from last week.

2. Article Announcer & Content Publisher

3. Other Stuff

Hi again

Today, I want to dedicate this newsletter to two pieces of software (being released next week) that will make your job as a webmaster so much easier. Article Announcer and Content Publisher. You will also get your first look at Content Publisher in action in a short video I created, as well as find out how you can get this tool for fr.ee.

I’ll also update you on the results of my experiments from last week.

—————————————————
1. Experimental results from last week.
—————————————————

(a) Article Announcer Experiment

Last week I told you about the initial results of my experiment using the soon to be released Article Announcer software (by Jason Potash).

Just to recap. I spent about an hour with Article Announcer and submitted an article I wrote to a small sample of the article directories contained in Article Announcer (about 10 out of the 100+). This article was not in Google before the experiment, and searching for the title in quotes (”Why does the link page have a PR zero?”), produced no matches.

2 days after the submissions I did a search of Google for my article title (in quotes), and Google returned 184 pages.

3 days after the submission there was over 360 results in Google (all referencing my article).

4 days after submission, the number had fallen to 85.

This drop may have been a glitch in Google, it may have been the results of Google serving up different data from different data centers. Who knows?

Yesterday (about 9 days after submission), there were 350 entries in Google referencing my article.

Today, 10 days after the submission, there are 440 references to my article. Remember this is from one hour of work!

In the last week, my article has been picked up by more and more sites. In my traffic logs, I am seeing an increase in traffic from sources that have published my article. That’s a good thing because it means I am not totally reliant on search engines to bring me targeted traffic.

The other great thing, is that my newsletter sign up page (which is the page being linked to from the resource box of this article), has moved into the top 10 of Google for the first time I can remember, for the term “internet marketing newsletter” (the link text used in the resource box of the article).

Prior to this article submission, it was on page 2 (and has been for over a year). With the amount of competition that this phrase has, that is quite an achievement.

While I cannot guarantee this increased ranking was due to the article submission, it does seem quite a coincidence if it was not responsible. Time for some more testing I think.

(b) Blog and Ping Experiment

Last week I told you about an experiment I conducted using the much touted Blog & Ping technique to see if I could get new sites indexed in Yahoo. My own results last week suggested that the Blog & Ping technique no longer worked. All three sites in my experiment failed to get more than a homepage indexed in Yahoo.

Today, one week later, nothing has changed. All three of the sites only have a homepage indexed in Yahoo. I am not going to keep these blogs active any longer. I will be deleting them today.

A large number of readers wrote to me, saying that they had similar results to my own.

As I said last week, in my opinion, this type of automated blog & ping is spam. I know from the feedback that I received this week that not everyone agrees. That is fine. We all have the right to our opinions, but for those who are on the fence on this one, I leave you my own results for you to make your own decision.

2. Article Announcer & Content Publisher
—————————————————

In the first section, I discussed the great results I achieved using Jason Potash’s new Article Announcer software.

This software is going to be released on 28th June, and I believe the price is going to be around the $300 mark. While this might sound steep, I do think that the complete package is well worth that. You can read my full review of Article Announcer.

If you have read my review, you might have seen the bit at the end where I say that I will be giving away copies of my Content Publisher software. More about that in a minute.

If you need to be persuaded to part with that amount of mon.ey for Article Announcer, you should download and read this report.

Article Announcer is a great time saver, and it clearly works. It is a fabulous tool for distributing your content around the web.

OK, so what about that freebi.e?

Content Publisher is my own, soon to be released tool. Beta testers are checking the final beta and I will be finishing the manual tomorrow. Hopefully, I can have it ready for release on 28th June. That’s right - the same day as Article Announcer. Now releasing my product on the same day as Article Announcer means that I will be competing for your cash, or does it? I have come up with a solution that I think your will like.

Content Publisher is going to go on sale for $149 (although I will be giving newsletter subscribers the option to buy at a discount). However, knowing that budgets are tight, here is a great offer for you.

BUY ARTICLE ANNOUNCER THROUGH MY AFFILIATE LINK, AND I WILL GIVE YOU A COPY OF CONTENT PUBLISHER FOR FR.EE.

When you purchase Article Announcer through my link, Jason will send you an order number. Send me that order number, and once I confirm that I have been credited for your sale, I will send you download instructions for Content Publisher. As an owner of Content Publisher, you will of course be eligible for full support and upgrades, like anyone else who purchases it.

Sound good?

What’s that?

What does Content Publisher do?

OK, let me explain the idea behind Content Publisher.

When I build one of my own sites, I usually add quite a large number of articles to the site. This can be very time consuming. I need to edit my template file, paste in the article, edit the meta tags, sort out the formatting, add in links to related articles, add in Adsense, save and upload the article, and finally place a link to the article so the search engines can find it.

On receiving a batch of 100 articles from my ghost writers, it would take a full day or two to get them all published on my site.

Content Publisher was created to speed this up.

Here is what I do now.

1. Create the main site with the main pages of the site.
2. Create a template for Content Publisher.
3. Import my 100 articles into Content Publisher (takes seconds).
4. Click Publish, and the article pages are created, and an article map. Click another button and Content Pubisher creates a set of Server Side Include files (more about these in a minute).
5. Open my FTP program an upload.

Whole process takes 20 to 30 minutes (and most of that is editing the templates).

OK, let me show you a real example.

I created a demo site. It is a very simple site built using a CSS design (although you can use tables if you prefer) that has 5 pages, each of which promote one of my products.

Have a look here.

I created this site in Dreamweaver, but you could equally create the site in Frontpage, SEO Website Builder or any other website authoring tool.

Now, I am ready to add my articles.

I am using my newsletters as articles for this demo site.

I imported 5 articles into Content publisher (as simple as selecting the articles, and pressing a button).

I went to the Content Publisher Publishing screen, and pressed a button.

Next, I opened my FTP program and uploaded.

The resulting site can be seen here.

The only difference you will see on the homepage, is the new item in the right column called “Sample ezSEO Newsletters”.

This item was inserted into the homepage by using a Server Side Includes created by Content Publisher.

Click the link to ezSEO Newsletter 65.

Surprised? It does not take you to the newsletter number 65. It takes you to an article map listing all 5 articles I imported, with Newsletter 65 being the first in the list.

This article map was created by Content Publisher.

The link on the homepage to this article map, means my articles will get found and spidered far quicker.

OK, click on one of the newsletter links.

The newsletter is published on its own page. Note there is bread crumb navigation top right (it is easy to include these in your Content Publisher templates).

In the right hand column, you now have an item called “Related Articles”. Content Publisher has picked 3 articles (you can define how many you want) it thinks are most related to the one on the page (this is based on meta keyword tags and article content).

These related articles are created using server side includes again. The links to related articles keeps your visitors happy and moving around your site until hopefully they buy something, or click an Adsense. In addition, these related links will spread PR around the site and increase link reputation to all article pages.

Incidentally the link text used in these related links is taken from the title of the article, but you can add in alternative link texts for each article so that link text is chosen at random from those you specify. This way, you can get several different link texts all pointing to the same article. This is a great way to build reputation for a number of different phrases.

OK, so this demo site is alright, but what if I want to add in another set of articles?

Well, that is easy.

Import the new articles into Content Publisher, go straight to the publish screen and click a couple of buttons.

Open your FTP program, and upload.

I did this with another 16 articles.

Adding these extra 16 articles took less than two minutes (and most of that was uploading time) since once you have your templates sorted out, you don’t need to touch them.

Here is the new site.

The visible difference on the homepage compared to the last site, is that there is now 3 links in the Sample ezSEO Newsletter section.

Click on one of them.

You are taken to one of three article map pages which link to a batch of my articles (I specified that I wanted a maximum of 10 links per article map page, but you can choose how many you want).

At the bottom of each article map is a link to the other two article maps. This ensures that all article maps and articles get found quickly by the search engines.

If I had another 100 articles to add to this site, I could import them, publish them and upload with FTP in no more than 5 minutes. I might like to increase the number I specified for articles per article map to maybe 30, but that is the only change I would have to make to the system.

OK, now there is a fair amount of talk here about server side includes (SSI). If you don’t know how to use SSI, you might feel a little intimidated.

To help you out, I will be creating extra help and videos showing how to carry out all of the steps included in using Content Publisher. These videos wont be available immediately, but hopefully sometime next month.

Although I have told you how easy it is to publish content to your sites using Content Publisher, there is nothing quite like seeing it for your own eyes. If you want to see a short video I created this morning where I import and publish some articles, visit the Content Publisher Homepage. There is a link to the video.

Content Publisher is a great tool to have in conjunction with Article Announcer. One tool publishes to your own site, the other publishes articles to article directories, ezine editors and announcement lists. Together, these tools will give you a huge advantage.

To repeat my offer. Buy Jason’s Article Announcer software through my affiliate link (when it is available), and I will give you Content Publisher for fr.e.e.

On 28th June, I will send out a notification when Article Announcer is released. You can simply click on the link in that notification to buy Article Announcer.

3. Other Stuff
—————————————————

A report written by Google has apparently “leaked out” and is causing a lot of affiliates to sweat. Although we don’t have time this week to go through the report and its implications, we will look in detail next week at it, and discuss how you can keep your affiliate sites listed, and ranking well in Google. If you want to read the article for yourself, go to:

http://www.searchbistro.com/spamguide.doc

You will be asked for a username and password, but just click Cancel and the document should open in Word. If not, dont worry, we will cover the important bits next week.

Well, that’s it for another issue. If you want to read the recent issues of this newsletter, you can read them online at my blog here.

For older newsletters, you will need to visit the old archives.

Have a great week!
