This week:

1. Building Affiliate Sites - Miniseries Part V

2. Content Publisher

3. Niche Blueprints

Hi again.
This week we continue with our mini-series on building affiliate sites. This miniseries is building up into a very comprehensive report, that rivals many high cost manuals available today.

The big danger, of course, is that because it is f.r.ee, you take no action. Its funny isn’t it that f.r.ee. stuff is perceived as low quality, while high cost items are seen as quality. The more you pay for information, the more incentive there is to use that information. Don’t fall into that trap here ;o)

Let’s begin…

—————————————————
1. Building Affiliate Sites - Miniseries Part V
—————————————————

If you have been following this course so far, you will have:

a) identified your niche and checked for profitability
b) carried out your keyword research at Wordtracker.
c) sent yourself your keyword research from Wordtracker.
d) selected several phrases to use as main page keywords.

If you missed any of these newsletters, you can read them online here at my blog.

This mini course begins in issue #89 and continues to the latest post in the blog.

Last week we finished off by mentioning “themeing”. We will be moving on to that soon, but before we do, let’s look at article pages, and discuss how these can increase our website traffic, and increase the chances of affiliate sales.

Articles have a very special role in the overall functioning and ranking of a web site.

Articles can:

- get your site traffic from the search engines
- increase the ranking of other pages on your site
- get you recognised as a leading expert in your field
- build confidence in your visitors
- funnel visitors to main pages where you are selling products
- easily make income via Adsense (or similar)
- establish your site as an authority in the niche

Note that I started by saying “articles can”, not “articles will”. The reason for this is simply that done badly, or incorrectly, articles can get you into trouble.

The basic idea with articles, is to create informative content, that ranks well for a range of keywords, and provides your visitors with useful information. These articles can then guide your visitor to any of your main pages, to try to get a sale. If the article was useful and informative, your visitor will have more confidence in your recommendations on the main pages.

We mentioned last week that you wont immediately be able to compete for highly competitive keywords, so the place I always start is at the bottom (low competition, often low number of searches keywords).

Once your site starts to mature, it becomes more realistic to target more competitive phrases. The phenomenon known as the Google Sandbox, can often mean new sites wont rank well for several months, but adding high quality content does appear to shorten this “quarantine”.

So how do you decide which phrases to target as articles?

Well, KRA-WT comes to the rescue again.

I did some quick keyword research last year on barbecues. The research resulted in 1989 phrases relating to BBQs.

(Note I will put up the BBQ data files on the KRA-WT updates page today, for KRA owners who wants to follow along with this).

In KRA-WT I can filter these according to my own criteria. For articles, I start off targeting the low competition phrases.

Criteria: In the maximum competing pages box, enter 100. Enter 5 for the minimum number of daily searches, and filter.

KRA-WT returns 91 keyword phrases with less than 100 competing pages, and 5 or more searches per day.

These are the phrases I would start off targeting for articles. These 91 phrases represent a total of 605 daily searches at Google. That means, if we can rank well for these low competition phrases, we can get a reasonable amount of traffic.

If 91 sounds too many to target initially, why not change the filtering criteria. Try 10 as the maximum number of competing pages, and 5 as the 24 hour minimum. KRA-WT spits out 44 keyword phrases you could target (representing 272 daily searches at Google).

You could take this even further and find just those phrases with 0 or 1 competing pages in Google. KRA-WT finds 11 of those which account for 62 daily searches in Google. How difficult would it be to rank well for those phrases?

Now, this research was done last year, so the data is going to way out of date now, but I think you get the idea.

One of the problems with this approach is it is often difficult to write interesting, informative content on some of these phrases. Your content needs to be high quality, and something that the visitor is actually interested in reading. We will look at ways to create interesting articles from most phrases when we come to the article writing section of this series, but for now, let’s look at a different question.

How can you find in-demand phrases that are EASY to write articles on?

That is quite easy too.

Filter out phrases according to certain words they contain.

e.g.In KRA-WT, remove any filtering criteria, and instead, just use the “root word” box to filter your phrases. This feature of KRA-WT allows you to find phrases that contain a given “root” word. If you are following along using a spreadsheet, then sorry, I am not sure how you would do this.

OK, what we are looking for are the types of phrases people use when searching for answers to their questions. If you can identify phrases that are basically questions, then you have great phrases to write articles on.

Let’s look at some examples.

The word “what”.

This word often starts a question, so any phrases with the word what in, often have a good chance of being questions.

Filtering in KRA, here is what I get for my BBQ niche:

“what to look for in an outdoor grill”
“what is a good high temp paint for bbq pits”
“what to look for when buying an outdoor gas grill”
.
OK, only three phrases, but I am sure you can see that each would make very good titles for articles on your site - and people are searching for information on these topics.

You can even do these searches directly in Wordtracker.

e.g. go to compressed search and type in

what bbq
what grill

on consecutive lines.

Wordtracker finds 37 phrases (with the end of summer, BBQ data is still in Wordtracker so this makes a great time for researching this “summer” activity).

Here they are:

how long and at what temp to bbq pork ribs
what temperature to use on grill
what is the best bbq grill
what is a mangal bbq
what is the best propane grill
what to bring to a bbq
what bbq uk
what is the ratio of mix for bbq rubs
what goes with bbq
what is the best portable gas grill
what is the best rat-ed gas grill (modified to prevent spam filters)
what kind of pork ribs are best for bbq
what to look for on outdoor bbq grill
what to look for when buying a bbq
what to make from left over bbq chicken recipes
350 f on a gas grill is considered what temperature
bbq party what to bring
bbq what to serve
what are good vegetables to grill
what are the best burners for gas grills
what are they lyrics for bbq stain by tim mcgraw
what can i cook on a barbeque grill
what does a 1967 gmc front grill look like
what gas grill is the best
what happened to ducane grills
what is the best barbecue grill to buy
what is the best barbecue grill to buy for under $500
what is the best bbq
what is the best liquid propane gas barbecue grill
what is the best type of barbecue grill grate
what is the grill space of the monogram 36 outdoor grill
what is the number one rated barbecue grill
what size grill do i need
what temperature for my gas grill for rotisserie chicken
what to cook on your gas grill
what to eat with bbq porkchops
what type of smoker grill

Obviously my own research from last year looks a little inadequate now, doesn’t it?

Another example - the word “how”.

Again this word is used a lot in questions. Filtering out the phrases in KRA with the word “how”, gives me this selection:

how to build a barbecue pit
how to build a bbq
how to bbq
how to bbq pork ribs
how to build a outdoor grill
how to barbecue
how to build a bbq island
How to Barbecue Chicken
showtime bbq
How to build a portable grill
how to build an outdoor grill
how to cook chicken on a charcoal grill
How to buy an Outdoor Grill
HOW TO BUILD A BRICK GRILL
how to cook parboiled chicken on a charcoal grill
how to use a charcoal grill
how to build outdoor bbq grills
how to cook a steak on an indoor electric grill
Plans on how to build a brick BBQ pit.
How to build a bbq smoker
how to clean a propane grill
how to make your own brick bbq pit
how do i build a brick barbecue
step by step how to build outdoor masonry grill
how to build outdoor grills
how to clean stainless steel grill grates
how to build my own barbeque grille from brick
how to build my own barbeque grille from brick Barbecue Pit
free plans how to build brick smoker / bbq
How to Build a Brick Barbecue

OK, one or two may not be suitable e.g. “showtime bbq” which has the word “how” inside the word showtime, but again, you can see how these phrases would make excellent article titles.

TIP: Brainstorm the sort of words you use when formulating a question, and use these as the basis of articles.

Because a lot of these questions are quite specific, they often have low competition, but also low number of searches. In other words, they make excellent starter phrases for your first articles. If your site does get reviewed by a search engine employee (we talked about that “leaked” Google report in an earlier newsletter), there is very little chance your site could get labelled as “thin”, since your articles all address specific questions/problems of your visitors.

The phrases you find using this technique occasioanlly thow up phrases with considerable competition. e.g. “how to bbq” currently has over 10,000 competing pages in Google.

Can you still use this phrase?

Sure you can, but I would recommend a different use for it.

Many of the article directories that accept article submissions from authors, have high PR, and consequently rank well for competitive keywords.

I would suggest you take these high competition keywords, write an informative and well optimized article, and submit it to one of these directories. There is a good chance you could rank in the top 10 for your chosen phrase.

OK, now those of you on the ball have noticed the problem. Your article ranks well, but at someone elses site. How can this possibly be a benefit to your site?

Well, we will come to that when we look at off-page optimization later in the series. I will just say though that this strategy offers you MANY benefits, and your site will thank you for it.

For those of you following this series with your own data, your task this week is to find phrases you can use on your site for articles. I would suggest you try to find at least 30 to begin with, but the more the better. If you find you have more than you need, I suggest changing your filtering criteria so that you increase the number of daily searches, and/or reduce the competing pages, until you have the desired number of phrases for articles. This will maximise the number of visitors you get from your keyword selection.

Target low competition phrases, even down to 2 or 3 searches a day at Google if necessary. We will look next week at themeing, and how this technique can mean that even pages built round low competition phrases can still bring significant traffic to your site.

Once you have mastered themeing, you will then start to create your main pages, and articles. Exciting times lay ahead…

2. Content Publisher—————————————————

Wow. It has been a long time coming, hasn’t it? Content Publisher is still not officially released. This week I am making the final changes to the manual (updating to reflect added features), and releasing it.

A few weeks ago, I offered Content Publisher to ezSEO newsletter subscribers at a big discount. That offer was only open for a few days, but many of you took me up on that, and the feedback I have received has been fabulous.

Since the release has been delayed, I am opening up the offer again, but only for a few days. Once Content Publisher is released, the price does go up to the full price, and stays there.

Now, before I tell you where you can read more about Content Publisher to see if it is something you will find useful, let me just make a few points.

* Content Publisher is not a spamming tool.
* It does not grab content off the internet like some of those scraper tools.
* Content Publisher does not create content for you.
* Content Publisher is only useful to you if you are building large content sites, or want to start building large content sites. Many of you already know how easy it is to make money from Adsense when you create quality content sites.
* Content Pubisher can be used and integrated into any site, built with any web editor, as long as you can upload pages to your server.
* Content Publisher is aimed at professional webmasters who add lots of articles to their sites.
* To take full advantage of the advanced features, you do need some technical knowledge, though the basic publishing features require very little technical know-how (just a bit of HTML to create your templates).

If this sounds interesting to you, visit this temporary page.

Note, that this page will be removed this week, and the only page you can then get it from is the Content Publisher homepage.

3. Niche Blueprints
—————————————————

This week saw the release of the second September Niche Blueprint. Niche Blueprints have been a tremendous success since they were first released at the beginning of this year.

Many of those who buy them, buy them both, every month, which is a testament to their value. Just read the testimonials on the sales page to see why a number of marketers are snatching up each and every one. With all of the research done for you, and a step by step manual to follow, how can you fail?

There is usually a few left over each month (only 100 of each blueprint are sold), so you can still pick up some of the earlier ones, as well as the latest September blueprints.

To read more, visit the Niche Blueprint homepage.

Well, that’s it for another issue. If you want to read the recent issues of this newsletter, you can read them online here at my blog.

For older newsletters, you will need to visit the old archives.

Have a great week!
