I'm really surprised that Ipower.com got a good rating.
They changed their platform and also went from using Cpanel
to a less desirable Vdeck. I was forced to move since
the change made my advanced sites that used MySQL, CRON
and IONCUBE ... TOTALLY INOPERABLE. Their Tech Support
totally sucks. (when you can get them to answer you)
They couldn't even solve small issues.

If you have a "do nothing" site, then Ipower is nice
affordable hosting. But if you ever plan to do more
than just show a page, use someone else.

My vote goes to Hostgator at this point. They seem to
be run by "marketers for marketers".

My experience with Hostgator was a year of frustration. For the first time in over 3 years since starting my site, my emails were suddenly bouncing because of being tagged as spam, which they absolutely are/were not. I complained to support and got sporadic, slow and often unhelpful support, if I got an answer at all. Phone support referred me to daytime email support, who were often slow or unresponsive. When I tried to trace the problem on my own, I kept arriving at some 3rd party company that rents out server space. When I asked how my emails were coming from this other company's servers, HG ignored my questions. I thought maybe they farmed out extra server needs, and if this other company did not enforce an anti-spam policy, I might have been lumped in with spammers due to being on a shared IP. But when I asked if this was the case, HG wouldn't even address the question. There were other problems too, but that was the worst and most frustrating. After wrestling with them for a year, I finally just left. They followed up and asked why I left. I told them and never heard from them again. So much for caring why they lost a customer. I'm trying a new company now and so far I have no complaints. We'll see what happens. I find 30 days to try a new company is way too short to know what they're really like. It takes a good 6 months to see what they're like over time. Andy, thanks for letting us fill in the details!

I've been with Bluehost for about 4 months now and was delighted to find them in your top ten. Incidentally HostMonster and Bluehost are the same people, as I discovered when doing my prepurchase homework.

The way they handle the 'unlimited domains on the one account' is that all your addon domains are in fact subdomains of the primary domain (the one you register your hosting for). All the additional domains are redirected to the appropriate subdomains of your primary domain.

One thing I like is that you can login to ALL your domains via the one control panel.

In regards to Jim's comment, I too have nothing but praise for the Hostgator hosting option. If there has been any downtime, I have no report of it.

Every time I have had a technical problem or question, I not only reach a live person (once at 5am) but do so with a minimum of wait time. And probably even more important, they were more than qualified to answer my questions...and in a language I could understand (both in technical speak and English).

Highly recommended!

I agree with #4. I've used HostGator for a couple of years--after trying several others--and as far as I'm concerned, they've got it all. Their price is reasonable, you can host multiple domains, they use CPanel, they have great uptime, and they have both email and phone support. Those are the things I look for in a hosting service, and they're the only one I've found (after trying most or all of the others) that has them. Also, you can pay by the month if you like.
