July 22, 2007 by Andy
This week:
1. PPC Landscape is about to change again.
2. How to theme a web page.
3. How to sell a product online – Part I
4. My new affiliate program.
Hi again.
Hope you’ve had a good couple of weeks. There wasn’t a newsletter last week because I was very busy setting up my new affiliate program. More details of that in this issue. Also we’ll start the new mini-series by looking at the kinds of stuff that need to be considered when selling a product online. There is also a video that covers one of the questions I get asked about on a weekly basis, and a preview of a fantastic new PPC tool that is on the horizon.

1. PPC Landscape is about to change again.

If you do PPC advertising, YOU MUST READ THIS.
In recent weeks we have had Google Cash Detective, and then the excellent (and much cheaper alternative called Adspy Pro which I use).
These tools allow you to spy on your competitors, and find out which of their ad campaigns were making them m0ney. All of a sudden, PPC became a lot less trial and error.
Now, Alan Gardyne and his new business partner are about to release a truly another exciting tool for all PPC marketers.
Creating great PPC campaigns takes a lot of hard work. As the PPC side of your business grows, you may have the choice of hiring an expert to help, or stop growing the PPC side of your business, because you simply don’t have time to track everything.
Great campaigns take a lot of work to build, and run.
Jay Stockwell is Alan Gardyne’s new business partner. He started doing PPC in 1999 (that’s before I started my own online business). Jay is an AdWords Qualified Individual and does contract PPC advertising for an Australian company, Cash Doctors, charging $500 an hour for PPC consulting. Jay says that there are five main criteria for a successful PPC campaign.
1) Highly targeted, relevant keywords.
2) Small, tightly grouped, ad groups based around the same terminology.
3) Text ads that match the keywords (and terminology) exactly.
4) Landing pages that match the keywords and the text ads exactly.
5) Tracking mechanisms that allow you to ensure that the keywords are paying for
themselves.
Jay suggests that if you can get these 5 things right, you are well on your way to a successful PPC campaign. However, Jay reckons there are a couple of things that often complicate this.
1. Too much competition pushes keyword prices up, and
2. You don’t make enough per sale to make your PPC worth while.
As you can see, there is a lot to get right, and time is often the limiting factor in PPC.
Well, Jay has been working on a solution for several months, and he let me test it.
Here’s how Jay sums up his software solution…
* Roll out highly targeted, high converting PPC campaigns 72,500% faster. This software helps you turn a month of full time work into 12 minutes’ worth.
* Dramatically decrease your PPC costs by using very small, tightly focused ad groups to increase click-through rates. Without the extra work normally required.
* Significantly increase your landing page conversion rates by dynamically matching it perfectly with the original keyword. Create perfectly matching landing pages for every single keyword in your campaign automatically.
* Create perfectly matching ads for each laser focused ad group, pushing your click-through rates sky high and reducing your costs.
* Achieve amazing Google AdWords Quality Scores to allow for extremely low minimum bids.
* Powerfully leverage the long tail traffic in a way that you thought would not have been possible without full-time staff.
* Track every ad group and every keyword with surgical precision so you can tweak your campaigns into profitability. Even for affiliate and CPA offers that you
couldn’t normally track easily.
If all this wasn’t enough, Jay has created a datafeed integrator as well. This tool helps you create landing pages out of merchant datafeeds, that match your ad campaigns.
If you have been struggling with PPC campaigns, by now, your stomach is probably tied in a knot after reading what this software can do.
Well, so was mine when Alan first wrote to me. For the last few days, I have played with the tools, and am very impressed. I was going to create a video for you to watch, but just ran out of time. Instead, you can watch a video that Jay has produced. You’ll see how he completes an estimated 145 hours of work, in just 12 minutes.
In 12 minutes the software:
* “Created” 8720 highly targeted, low competition keywords.
* Each keyword is matched to its own keyword targeted landing page.
* These keywords were split into 436 Ad groups of tightly related themes (focused for high clickthrough rates).
* In all, the software created 1744 unique, high clickthrough rate text ads (that’s 4 per ad group).
If you are a PPC advertiser, this is incredible… Here is the video.
After watching the video, make sure you sign up for more videos using the subscription box on this page.

2. How to theme a web page.
—————————————————
I have covered this in the past, but I have had so many requests for information and advice on this, that I decided to put a video together to show you exactly what I do before writing a single page of content.
You can watch the video here.
Enjoy!

3. How to sell a product online – Part I
—————————————————
Today, we are starting the new mini-series.
After polling readers of this newsletter, the topic that you wanted my to discuss, was how you go about selling a product online. You can see the results of that poll here.
In this series, I am not just going to discuss setting up an order page. I want to cover a lot of ground here, and discuss the issues that I have gone through while selling my own products online.
I made a lot of mistakes over the years, and am only now correcting some of them.
I’ll be covering everything from protecting your product, promoting your product, the sales site, autoresponders, JVs, affiliate programs, customer issues, supporting your product, collecting payments, refunds and a whole lot more.
My idea is simple. I want you to have enough knowledge to be confident setting up, and selling a product online. I also want you to have a system in place that almost guarantees success – as long as the product doesn’t stink!!
OK, for today, I have something for you to download. I bought some mind map software this week, to help me plan out (and teach) a variety of topics. I have created an initial mind map for the entire process of selling a product online. This was created in about 20 minutes off the top of my head, and includes the stuff we will cover in this course.
I will be adding to this over the weeks to come, and you will be able to download all updated maps during this course.
OK, before I give you the download link for the mind map, you need to download the “Viewer” software. You can get that here:
Its a big download as they package a demo version of the mind map software with it, but it is worth downloading, as mind maps are going to become a large part of my tutorials, miniseries, reports, and eBooks in the future. With the viewer, you’ll be able to open/close/follow the branches of each mind maps I create, and these can lead to web page, other maps etc.
OK, you can now download the mind map I created for this miniseries here:
And, for those who don’t want to download the mind map viewer just yet, here is a PDF version of the map (you cant manipulate it in the same was as the viewer, but you can see the entire map):
We’ll leave it there for now, but next week, we’ll start covering all of the points on the map.

4. My new affiliate program
—————————————————
Those who have read recent issues will know that I have become disillusioned with Clickbank (actually I have been for years, but have only now gotten round to doing something about it). They don’t protect my affiliates, and don’t give me enough power over my affiliate program to make sure that commission cheats can’t steal YOUR commissions. Because of this, I am going in-house. It is all setup and waiting for testing.
I have one affiliate testing the system in the next couple of weeks, and as long as things go smoothly, you can expect my own affiliate program to move away from Clickbank.
For now, the Clickbank links you are using to promote my products will continue to work, but when I make the switch, you will need to change those links to the new format. Hopefully you are using htaccess redirects (I have talked about these a couple of times) for those links, so you can make the switchover in a few seconds.
The emphasis of my program is to make sure the correct affiliate is rewarded for their efforts, and commission thieves are NOT rewarded. Honest hard working affiliates, will know that their referrals who purchase, will result in a commission for them.
I’ll be releasing more details soon, but for now, the only other thing you need to know is that only customers can be affiliates. No longer will your referrals be able to sign up themselves, and steal YOUR commissions.
I will email all of my customers with affiliate sign-up information soon, plus details of the program.
