This week:

1. “WordPress For Affiliate Sites” Closed

2. Best Method for Finding Theme Words?

Hi again

This has been a very busy week for me, so the newsletter is very short this week.? I opened up my new “WordPress For Affiliate Sites” community and have been busy creating the content for my members.? I haven’t had time this week to create a WordPress tutorial for the newsletter, but I do have an interesting insight into how to find the best theme words to create your content on.

Let’s get on…

1. WordPress For Affiliate Sites Community “Closed”
– — – — – — – — – — – — – — – — –

This last week I launched, and “closed” my WordPress For Affiliate Sites community.? In this community, I’ll be helping all members set up their own WordPress Affiliate site, while they watch me build one from scratch.

I was intending to initially open it at a lower price, and then raise the price thereafter.? However, after seeing around 70 people join, I decided that too many more and I would not be able to help people on an individual basis, so I closed the doors.? I will be re-opening in the future, but cannot guarantee what price it will be to join.

However, as is always the case, I have received emails from some people who wanted to join, but for one reason or another, could not join during the 24 hour release period.? For anyone who has contacted me, I have let them join, though officially the site is now closed to new members.? I had intended to mention the community one more time in my newsletter, just in case anyone has missed the promotion during the last few weeks.? So, if you want to see what this community is all about, you can read more here:

http://improdigy.com

You will notice that the site says membership is closed.

However, if you are interested, you can join via this temporary link.

I will keep it up for a few days, though I do have a maximum membership in mind, so if I get to that number, the link will stop working.

3. Best Method for Finding Theme Words?
– — – — – — – — – — – — – — – — –

If you have read my latest themeing report here (look for the link to “The Gestational Diabetes Report”):

http://keywordresearchlab.com/themes

.. you cannot help but be impressed by the evidence in that report.

One of the questions I get asked a lot is how it is possible to find the theme words for a page if you do not own KRA Pro.? You see, KRA Pro makes it very easy, but not everyone can afford it.

http://www.keywordresearchlab.com/krapro/

My advice has always been to use the top ranking web pages to find theme words.

The simplest method is to visit the top 10 pages and copy their meta keyword tags.? These are the words and phrases that these pages are suggesting are important.? However, there is a growing trend amongst SEOs to not include the main m0ney making keyword phrases in the meta tags for exactly this reason.? They don’t want their hard work to just be available for anyone to copy.

What I wanted to do was to see how well themed the top 10 pages are for the phrases they include in their meta tags.? Do the meta keyword tags really make a good reference point for finding theme words for your pages.

The test is simple.? I have taken the phrase “plasma tv”? and searched Google.? I visited the top 10 pages, and stripped out the words and phrases that appear in the meta tags of those pages (actually I got KRA Pro to do it).

Here is the report on the meta tags that the top 10 pages in Google use:

plasma tv review, 25,?? plasma tv reviews, 17,?? plasma television review, 5,?? best plasma tv, 4,?? flat panel display, 3,?? cheap plasma tvs, 1,?? flat screen tv, 0,?? plasma televisions review, 0,?? best plasma television, 0,?? plasma hdtv review, 0,?? plasma hdtv reviews, 0,?? best plasma hdtv, 0,?? s video cable, 0,?? cat 5 cable, 0,?? compare tv prices, 0,?? buy plasma tvs, 0,?? compare plasma tvs, 0,?? plasma tv, 222,?? plasma display, 35,?? tv reviews, 23,?? plasma television, 19,?? display technology, 4,?? hdmi cable, 2,?? 3d display, 1,?? plasma monitor, 1,?? video cables, 1,?? august 12, 0,?? flat tv, 0,?? dvi cable, 0,?? component cable, 0,?? network cable, 0,?? hdmi switch, 0,?? hdmi adapter, 0,?? video adapter, 0,?? hdmi splitter, 0,?? compare tvs, 0,?? compare? tvs, 0,?? best? tvs, 0,?? discount tvs, 0,?? buy tvs, 0,?? cheap? tvs, 0,?? tv ratings, 0,?? online shopping, 0,?? buy? tvs, 0,?? tv stores, 0,?? plasma, 386,?? tv, 383,?? review, 139,?? screen, 87,?? display, 75,?? lcd, 73,?? compare, 68,?? tvs, 68,?? buy, 65,?? prices, 62,?? hdtv, 61,?? reviews, 57,?? best, 44,?? television, 32,?? 12, 30,?? displays, 29,?? 2008, 23,?? page, 22,?? video, 21,?? cat, 20,?? panel, 18,?? technology, 18,?? televisions, 15,?? articles, 13,?? cable, 10,?? online, 7,?? cables, 6,?? flat, 6,?? 2007, 5,?? hdmi, 4,?? shopping, 4,?? 3d, 3,?? august, 3,?? cheap, 3,?? monitor, 3,?? monitors, 3,?? pricerunner, 3,?? ray, 3,?? since, 3,?? amlcd, 2,?? cathode, 2,?? dvi, 2,?? statements, 2,?? unsourced, 2,?? cathode-ray, 1,?? october, 1,?? ratings, 1,?? stores, 1,?? switch, 1,?? united, 1,?? adapter, 0,?? autostereoscopy, 0,?? component, 0,?? discount, 0,?? network, 0,?? splitter, 0,?? switcher, 0

The numbers included here are the numbers of times those phrases appear in the top 10 pages of Google.

Remember, ALL of the words and phrases above are included in the meta tags of the top 10 pages.

You will notice a lot of zeros.? That means words and phrases appearing in the meta tags ARE NOT in the visible web page.? Here is a list of those “fake” theme words:

3-Word phrases:
flat screen tv, 0,?? plasma televisions review, 0,?? best plasma television, 0,?? plasma hdtv review, 0,?? plasma hdtv reviews, 0,?? best plasma hdtv, 0,?? s video cable, 0,?? cat 5 cable, 0,?? compare tv prices, 0,?? buy plasma tvs, 0,?? compare plasma tvs, 0

2-word phrases:
august 12, 0,?? flat tv, 0,?? dvi cable, 0,?? component cable, 0,?? network cable, 0,?? hdmi switch, 0,?? hdmi adapter, 0,?? video adapter, 0,?? hdmi splitter, 0,?? compare tvs, 0,?? compare? tvs, 0,?? best? tvs, 0,?? discount tvs, 0,?? buy tvs, 0,?? cheap? tvs, 0,?? tv ratings, 0,?? online shopping, 0,?? buy? tvs, 0,?? tv stores, 0

Single words:
adapter, 0,?? autostereoscopy, 0,?? component, 0,?? discount, 0,?? network, 0,?? splitter, 0,?? switcher, 0

This to my mind is quite shocking.? These top 10 pages list these words as being the most important and relevant to their page, yet those words are not found in any of the top 10 pages in Google. Are they really that relevant?

While you can get a good idea of theme words, I think there is no substitute to actually looking and using the words on the pages of the top 10.

e.g. look up the top 10 ranking pages for the term: plasma tv, and then analyse each page, pulling out the related words and phrases, and counting how many times each phrase appears on each of the top 10 pages.? You can them order them with the most frequently found at the top.

Sounds very time consuming, doesn’t it?? Well it is if you do it manually.

I got KRA Pro to do this for me.

Using this method for finding theme words and phrases, KRA Pro returned over 700 words and phrases.

I’ll usually then filter out those that don’t appear somewhere between 5 to 10 times on the top 10 pages.? e.g. filtering out those that don’t appear at least 7 times in the top 10 now leaves me with 376 words and phrases.

Once I get this report, I’ll then sort through the results to refine my theme word list.? KRA Pro returns the words and phrases in the order of importance (most used words at the top), so sorting them is easy – start at the top and work down.

At the end, I’ll have a list of words and phrases that I know are found regularly on the top 10 pages ranking for my keyword phrase.

Remember, Google probably ignores the meta keyword tags when it is trying to decide what a page is about.? The important words are those found on the page.

Here is the new refined list from KRA Pro using this method:

3 & 4 word phrases:?
product information write review,?? hd support: hd ready,?? plasma tv buying guide,?? hdtv plasma screen review,?? audio type: srs trusurround,?? lcd tv buying guide,?? hd support: full hd,?? support: full hd,?? full hd,?? plasma tv review,?? tv buying guide,?? aspect ratio: 16:9,?? plasma tv reviews,?? ratio: 16:9,? support: hd ready,?? hd ready,?? where to buy,?? plasma tv buying,?? audio type: srs,?? panasonic plasma tv,?? hdtv plasma screen,?? plasma screen review,?? type: srs trusurround,?? lg plasma tv,?? samsung plasma tv,?? lcd tv buying,?? sony bravia engine,?? hd support: full,?? support: full hd,?? screen size: 42”,?? screen size: 50”,??

Single theme words:

That’s a lot of theme words, and I wouldn’t suggest trying to use them all in a web page on the topic of plasma tvs, but perhaps you would expect most of these on a small site about plasmas?

Using the top 10 web pages to look for theme words for any topic is a great way to find your theme words.? However, don’t be tempted to just blindly use those keywords that are found in the meta keyword tags.? Look at the page text as well, and you’ll find your theme words are a lot more relevant.
