EzSEO Newsletter # 230

February 2, 2009 by

This week the format of the newsletter is a little different – I only have one part to the newsletter.  It is also a day late, but that is intentional as you’ll see later in the newsletter – something was released today, and until the 6th February, you can get a good discount on it.

Today I want to show you how I find ideas for content, how I plan the article, and how I grab top rankings in Google for my chosen term.  You will see actual rankings in Google for one of my sites and Google analytics data showing the traffic.

1. Giving the search engines what they want.
– — – — – — – — – — – — – — – — –

For years, SEOs around the globe have been trying to break the Google code and find the next loophole that will allow them to get their pages to the top slot.

For those who are successful, it can mean a lot of inc0me, at least until the search engines find the loophole and plug it.

This is the game that has been going on ever since I started learning about Internet Marketing, and will continue to go on for the many people around the world who are hell-bent on beating the system.

I personally don’t get involved in this game.  I prefer a much more radical approach….

I listen to the guidance offered by the search engines, and then create the content that they want in the way that they want it :O)

With the type of content I create, I don’t have to change my optimization every time the search engines sneeze.  You see, what the search engines want is not likely to change any time soon.

Lean in a little closer and I’ll tell you the secret.

A little closer….

OK, are you ready?

The search engines want quality content.

Now, a piece of quality content is not going to stop being quality content next week, or next month, or even next year.  Quality content is always going to be quality content, even if it becomes dated by changing events.

You have heard the old saying "Content is King".  Well, what I have been preaching over the last few years is slightly different to that.

"Quality content is King":

Sure, there is a lot more to getting good rankings than just quality content, but without the quality content, no amount of optimization will give your page long-term ranking success.

Quality content is the most important first step.

One of the ways that I ensure my websites add quality to the Internet, is to find out exactly what people want to know, and then research and write content to answer their questions.

My work flow would go something like this (I’ll show you a video with the process in a minute, but first let me walk you through the steps):

1. Comprehensive keyword research using Wordtracker.  You can see exactly how I do that in my fr.ee Wordtracker Tutorial.  It’s a little dated now, but the method remains the same:

http://ezseonews.com/Wordtracker-Tutorial.PDF

2. Import the keywords into KRA Pro (or KRA).  I would then open the "questions" filter, to show me just those phrases that represent REAL QUESTIONS asked by searchers.

3. Research the topic so I have enough information to write an article on it.

4. Find theme words & phrases related to the main "question phrase".

5. Write the article with as much good, relevant  information as I can.

6. Go back over the article, analysing the "themeing" of the article, and try to get more of my theme words and phrases into the content where they make sense (though never stuffing).

7. Post the article on my site.

What I’ll usually find is that my article gets indexed within 10 minutes or so – you have seen proof of this fast indexing in previous newsletters – if you missed them, watch the videos on:

http://improdigy.com

Traffic usually starts to appear a couple of days later when backlinks from other pages on my site start to get factored into the ranking algorithm.

In the following video I’ll show you my methods for creating quality content, and give you a glimpse of how a new tool will change my own way of working.

Hi Andy – would love to watch the video, but Veoh is not available in South Africa and many other countries round the world. The Veoh website says simply: “Veoh is no longer available in SOUTH AFRICA”. According to Wikipedia, “In a controversial move, Veoh made its service unavailable to several markets (Africa, Asia, Central and South America Central and Eastern Europe) in May 2008.” So that’s a fair chunk of the planet that can’t watch your videos.
    Cheers,
    Scotch

I appreciate your problem. The reason I have Veoh showing at the moment is that it is the best quality video with one exception – Revver.com The problem has been that Revver takes a day or two to accept videos. Since this one was recorded yesterday morning as I wrote the newsletter, my video has not yet been accepted by Revver. As soon as I get notification that it has, I will switch to the Revver video. Revver were also down yesterday for a while, so that delayed this (and as I check right now, they are still down).

The video has been uploaded to a couple of other sites, but the quality is poor. Here is the URL for Google Videos:

    Andy,
Thanks for turning me on to Answer Analyst and also the link to the video on Google as I too couldn’t view it on your blog. When I tried to view it, it wouldn’t load and I got an error message. I’m glad you gave the Google link as I wouldn’t have wanted to miss it. Lots of great info.

Hi Andy! So glad to see you emphasize the importance of HIGH QUALITY content in search engine rankings. It seems most Internet entrepreneurs are only willing to go as far as they need to go to get results. You’re absolutely right – great content is going to stick for a long time to come.

  5. Jeff Baas says:

Thanks for the tip. I have KRA Pro, but it hadn’t occurred to be to use it in this way yet. Duh!

And Answer Analyzer looks like it makes the process even easier! Thanks a lot for the tip!

  6. Scotch says:

Thanks Andy, appreciate your quick response. I was able to watch the video from the link provided. As you say, the quality is not great, but I was still able to follow and make sense of the video.

Andy – Answer Analyst appears to be a product KRAPro is almost already delivering. Combine that KRAPro code with Dr. Andy’s Internet Browser, and you could have a search engine specific answer analyst in house tool (if you haven’t done it already). I’m a big fan of KRAPro and its one time cost compared to another high priced theme tool ($3k/month – are you kidding me?).

This could be a value add to your Fat Content Creator package (which I’m also an owner). I know – why go through that work when someone else has something similar with an affiliate program? You’ll have to decide if it’s worthwhile – but it looks like you’ve already got the pieces in place to pull it together.

  8. Allen says:

    Andy;
I am a new subscriber to your news letter, and a new member to WordPress for Affiliate Sites. I was catching up with some of your past News letters and viewed the video for the product Answer Analyst. It looks like a great product that would provide real value for future article research.
I realize the February, 6th date has passed but is it possible to somehow get whatever discount you offered.
    Regards;
    Allen

  9. Andy says:

    Allen
Answer Analyst is not my product, so it was not me giving a discount.
