Hi
If you just subscribed this week, welcome. We are in the middle of a mini-series showing you one way to build a profitable niche site. We have looked in previous newsletters at how to choose the right affiliate programs, and then how to find profitable keywords for your site. We looked at how we were going to link our pages of the site together and last week we look at how to create one of the main pages of our site.
If you missed any previous issues, you can find them in the archives.
This week:
1. Creating great sales copy
2. Autoresponders
3. The Martell Supplement yesterday
4. Creating a Niche Site - Part V
---------------------------------------------------
1. Creating great sales copy
---------------------------------------------------
A while back I mentioned an eBook that I highly recommended if writing sales copy was not your strong point.
The book by Maria Veloso is still a big favourite of mine despite having read several other books on writing compelling, money-making content. Maria makes the distinction between sales copy that works in the bricks & mortar world, and sales copy that works on the Internet. Contrary to what I originally thought, they are not the same.
Anyway, I was checking back on her site to see if the book had been released yet. It is coming out in the shops soon, but is still available as an eBook. The eBook funnily enough does cost considerably more than the physical book will when it comes out, but I noticed on her order page that she is giving a free signed copy of the physical book to anyone who orders the eBook.
Armed with a great sales writing technique, you could diversify your own online business by writing an eBook, starting an ezine, or perhaps setting up some autoresponders. With that in mind, I want to briefly tell you about my own autoresponder experiences.
---------------------------------------------------
2. Autoresponders
---------------------------------------------------
As those of you who have subscribed to ezSEO newsletter for some time know, I changed from a free newsletter service to a paid one a few months back. My main reason for doing so was to give me the extra flexibility of using autoresponders to write some mini-courses and hopefully generate more sales via these courses. Aweber, the company that now distributes this newsletter also allows customers to run unlimited autoresponders too!
For those who are unfamiliar with autoresponders, they are a system that allows you to send a series of e-mails at pre-defined intervals, or on specific dates to those who request them.
You set up the e-mails on the server, specify the interval between each e-mail and the system is then totally automated.
If you want to see this in action, visit my homepage.
You can see that near the top of the homepage are two links to 2 separate mini-courses. These mini-courses were written using the mini-courses we have run in this newsletter (and the PDF files available on the subscriber bonus page).
If someone signs up for my Link Exchange course today, they will get:
Issue 1 - 22nd August
Issue 2 - 23rd August
Issue 3 - 24th August
Issue 4 - 25th August
Issue 5 - 26th August
I don't have to do anything. Sending the course out is totally automated by the autoresponder system once someone subscribes.
If I feel that there is too much information to send out daily, I can increase the interval between sending to 2 days, 5 days or more.
In addition, if I am going on holiday (I wish), I can write this newsletter early, specify a delivery date and go on holiday knowing my newsletter will get out on time.
So why use autoresponders?
You will hear from many of the top marketers online that your visitors are unlikely to buy on their first visit to your site. Visitors often need several exposures to your offerings before they buy. Think about how autoresponders can achieve that for you!
I have had quite a good sign up rate for these courses, and sales of the tools I use and recommend in these courses has increased 30% in the last month. Autoresponders are really a great way to increase your online presence and to make sure your prospects get repeatedly exposed to your offerings. The outcome? More money of course.
Have you ever thought of running autoresponder courses? I can highly recommend Aweber. You can get a trial account for 30 days:
Aweber is used by many successful marketers online (not just Internet marketing) and is definitely a highly recommended resource. I certainly will be creating more autoresponder courses in the near future.

3. The Martell Supplement yesterday
---------------------------------------------------
Thanks for the feedback after yesterdays supplement. In this feedback I was asked whether or not penalised sites that link to you can cause you problems. The answer is NO they cannot as long as you don't link back to them.
Google is not stupid. It realises that webmasters have no control over who links to their site. However, Google knows that YOU have 100% control over who you link to.
This type of "linking to a bad neighbourhood" penalty is most likely to affect those who just link to everyone and anyone, building up a huge links page or directory and then forgetting them once the desired PR level is attained. It is these people that I believe Google wants to target, since they are the ones that are artificially trying to raise their own PR (something Google hates).
If you are buying PR from sites, be careful.
If you are exchanging links with other sites, be careful.
If you want a better PR, play it safe and go for either non-reciprocal links, or by writing and submitting articles (as discussed in the free report on the subscribers bonus page).
If you go the reciprocal links strategy, make sure that you check your link partners every two weeks to make sure they have not been PR0 'd. If you only have one site, this is easy. However, if you have a lot of sites, a tool like Link Proctor.

4. Creating a Niche Site - Part V
---------------------------------------------------
With such a long newsletter already, I am going to keep this section short today.
Last week we looked at how we would decide upon primary and secondary keywords for the main pages of our site. These keywords can have higher competition than article pages since we intend to get some good links to the site allowing us to compete for more competitive terms. In addition we are writing lots of articles which can be used to link to these product pages and boost their rankings.
Remember the six main pages? They were built around:
scrapbook supplies
scrapbooking ideas
scrapbook layouts
scrapbook paper
scrapbook albums
baby scrapbooks
We also decided on around 100 lower competition phrases using KRA-WT to find the most profitable low competition phrases possible.
We will link from our 100 articles to the main 6 pages using either a menu, or text links woven into the articles themeselves.
That means that each of our six main pages will have 100 links pointing to them with link text that we specify. When we start to get external links pointing to our site (I recommend doing this by writing articles and submitting them to other webmasters), PR will begin to flow around the site and our main pages (as well as our article pages) will start to rise in the rankings. Keep getting more and more links in until you have the rankings you want.
The article pages have a few functions. They are going to target less competitive phrases and hopefully rank well from the beginning to get your site traffic. These articles will then funnel the traffic to one or other of the main 6 pages via the menu or text links within the article.
Remember the article pages will not have any affiliate links on them. We don't want to have to edit 100 pages every time a merchant changes their affiliate link (and some do this a lot!).
If you ignore this advice and want to add affiliate links to article pages, consider using server side includes (SSI). This is a topic we covered some time ago, and is a bonus chapter in my "Battle for the Top 10" eBook.
To write your articles, follow the guidelines laid down in the Article Report (I don't want to repeat myself too much).
As you write articles, add them to your site and place a link to them so the search engines can find them. The way I do this is to use my Sitemap Creator software.
to create an article directory. This is just a sitemap linking to all my articles. You can then add a link to your article directory from the homepage.
You can see an article directory on this site I built using my SEO Website Builder (SEO WSB) software.
Click on the "Sitemap" link at the bottom, and then the "Articles" links at the bottom of that page. Of course SEO WSB builds this all for you, but on the sites that I build in my favourite HTML editor, I use Sitemap Creator to build both a sitemap and an article map. It all works very well.
A final thing to remember about Articles. Target one low competition word as the main word of the article, plus a couple of other related low competition phrases as secondary phrases. That way each article will be found for several different phrases and bring you more traffic. If you own KRA-WT finding secondary phrases is as easy as typing in the primary phrase and filtering, or even easier than that would be to look at the Niche within a Niche reports that can be automatically generated from your keyword list.
We looked at one such "Niche within a Niche" report previously for the keyword phrase "Scrapbook supplies", but let's look at another, this time for our second main phrase - scrapbooking ideas:

Remember KRA-WT finds these automatically for you saving you hours in keyword research time.
Look at the list above. There are 18 phrases there that should present no problem in getting top Google rankings (less than 500 competing site, most with less than 10 cometiting sites). These phrases should be used as article keywords, and also as secondary phrases throughout your site on articles and main pages if possible.
That's it for another issue. I hope you found it informative. When this miniseries is complete, I will be releasing it as a PDF file which has diagrams to help you better understand some of the linking strategies we have been discussing.
bye for now.
