For those who subscribed to my newsletter in the last couple of week, welcome.
I should get up to date with the online archives of this newsletter this week, so if you missed any of the recent ones, you should see them there soon.
If you are wondering why there was no newsletter last week, it was simply because my wife was going into hospital for an induced birth last weekend.
In fact she went into hospital twice for the induction and twice was sent home at the end of the day because there were no beds in the "dilating room". Anyway, early on 28th September, our daughter decided she did not want to wait any longer to be induced and came on her own. 10 hours after the contractions started, Luna (Spanish name) came into the world. It has been a tiring few days for both my wife and myself, but I felt it was time to at least start to get back to work. For those who like baby photos, here is one of the exhausted yet extremely proud dad and his little girl.
A huge thanks for all the e-mails my wife and I have received in the last couple of weeks. Your support, prayers and good wishes were a little over-whelming, but greatly appreciated. Thank you.

1. Action plan for a successful site

I know for a fact that some people reading this newsletter are still trying to get their first successful site up and making money. The usual reason I can see for failing to build a successful site is what I call "get rich quick syndrome". The allure of making big money without any effort is such a strong pull. Who wouldn't want to build a 10,000 page site in 5 minutes that makes thousands of dollars a month income?
This year a number of webmaster tools have found their way onto the market (and into your e-mail inbox via newsletters - though not this newsletter) which make it easy for webmasters to mass produce pages with no unique content. Many of these tools promise massive traffic and therefore money. However, without exception, these "plug in your keywords and out pops your pages" tools have failed to impress the search engines. In many cases, webmasters are now finding their massed produced sites PR zeroed and banned from the worlds biggest search engine.
My advice has always been the same:
If you do anything that makes YOU nervous, your site has no long term future, so don't do it.
If you are reading this newsletter and have been struggling to make a successful site, take it from me, you need to work at it. The more effort you put in, the more successful your site will be. Stop chasing rainbows and get down to some hard work.
With that in mind, let me give you some advice. Plan on building a single site properly. On the subscriber bonus page (see resource box at the end of this newsletter) I have uploaded a PDF report called "Creating a niche site". This report will show you how I build successful affiliate sites.
If you have a couple of hours a week to invest into your online future, read this f.r.e.e. report and follow the advice in it. You will be able to build a money-making site.

2. Planet Ocean prediction and other news

I briefly mentioned Planet Ocean (subscription newsletter / eBook) in the last newsletter because of a study they had carried out relating to hyphens in filenames and domains.
This week, Planet Ocean sent out their October Update in which they talk about big changes happening at Google in the very near future. This time last year, Google made some sweeping changes to its algorithm sending many webmasters into a panic as sites dropped rankings or disappeared altogether. Planet Ocean have predicted that a similar change may happen soon, just in time for the shopping season.
In another section of Planet Oceans update, Esoos Bobnar has written a great article entitled "Help! My site has disappeared from Google!". It explains the common reasons for a site being banned and also what to do to get your site relisted if the unthinkable does happen.
Planet Ocean has been a goldmine of information for many years and is the resource all successful SEOs subscribe to. It is a yearly subscription, and one that I would not be without myself. For the price of your subscription you also get the "Winning the Search Engine Wars" eBook which is updated every month. If you want to get ahead of the competition, do seriously consider this resource.

I have been thinking about all the books and tools I bought this year and how many of them failed to live up to the hype on the sales page. Bought but never used, these resources do little to instil confidence in those wishing to start an online business.
There have also been some absolute stars which have become essential tools to my daily job as a webmaster. I had thought of listing my favourites, but thought that a better idea might be to get your recommendations instead.
I would love to compile a top 5 list of resources, recommended and voted for by the readers of this newsletter.
If there are any tools that you have bought in the last year that would make you sell your granny before giving them up, let me know and I will compile a list of books and tools for next week and the vote can begin.
