Review of 1st Position
1st Position is software that can simplify some of your SEO tasks - especially keyword research. While this software does also generate doorway pages for you, I don't recommend using that feature. Doorway pages are frowned upon, and can get you penalised at best. Another nice tool built into this software is a Spider Simulator. This will allow you to go and see what a spider would see when visiting any web page. Some webmasters use diversionary tactics and redirect their webpage traffic without the user ever seeing the page they designed. Only the spiders see that page. This technique means you see one thing, spiders see another. As a type of cloaking, this can get you into trouble. It is great to use the Spider Sim to see what exactly some webmasters are up to.
1st Positon is now in version 2. With the latest incarnation, 1st Position not only finds relevant keywords for you (100 in the registered version), but it also goes and finds out how much competition there is in Google and Altavista. The Altavista data I could do without, but the Google data is invaluable. First Position has the leg up on many similar tools in that it can search Google for each term, by putting the search term in quotation marks. The true value of this is unknown to many (sign up for my newsletter if you don't know why this is a good idea). Even software developers who create these keyword tools often misunderstand how their software should work. 1st Position is head and shoulders above the like of Overture Suggestion Tool, Good Keywords, and other keyword tools in this respect. The only keyword research tool that can beat this software is WordTracker.
At only $79.95, this is a good budget addition to a new webmasters arsenal, though the limit of 100 words is one reason I actually prefer Nichefinder.

My rating of this software is really just based on the keyword research tools + Spider simulator. I don't think the doorway page generator is of any value, and the IP redirector that is supposed to be under construction, has been under construction for well over a year - don't hold your breath for that. Besides I seriously doubt its value as SEO techniques move away from on-page factors.
A word about their support. I e-mailed this company on two separate occasions and did not get a reply. Not a great advert is it?
