I have been with Bluehost not quite 5 months now and I have no problems, excellent technical support 24/7 to answer my questions and feel very comfortable dealing with this firm. I like the fact they provide a toll free number for it is an International call for me every time to them. They have also a 24/7 online customer support function which I use and the response also is very quick. No problems yet. Their cPanel is easy to use with great tutorials provided.
My experience with Bluehost was mixed. On the one hand, I liked being able to login to all my sites through a single login interface. Service response time was average for the industry, meaning ‘not very good’. But the WORST thing was that THEY CLOSED ALL MY SITES WITH NO WARNING AND NO NEGOTIATION.
Here’s the story. A script that I was using on one of my WordPress blogs turned out to be “a resources hog” from their viewpoint, so they closed that site. The tech guys at the Abuse Department dont seem to have been affected by the warm cuddly feeling the public relations people give you. They’re tough.
I had about 50 sites with them so in time, something similar happened on another WordPress site of mine. Again, I was “OVERUSING” THEIR RESOURCES. So much for claims of “UNLIMITED” everything. NOT SO.
You must READ THE FINE PRINT in the agreement. It says if you overuse their CPU resources, YOU CAN GET CLOSED DOWN. It happened to me.
Instead of just closing sites that they dont appreciate, THEY CLOSED *ALL* OF MY SITES AT ONCE. No warning. No negotiation possible. I asked if they could just close that one site but they said no — I was a serial offender so I had to go.
So if you do choose to use Bluehost, and then you get a warning event like this, start looking for your next host right away.
(Since HostMonster is reportedly owned by the same chap, I imagine it is run along the same lines.)
I’ve been with Bluehost for a while, and they are an average host, with average response times
I love this host. I’ve only been with them for about a year, but support is excellent, price and features all great.
I host more sites with Bluehost than any other (I use four different webhosts). Part of that is because I’ve been with them longer than any other hosts (7-8 years or so) and part is because they are just plain good at everything.
