SEO 2015 & Google LSI

In this post, I want to look at one question.  Is LSI still important for ranking in Google?

Just over a year ago, in October 2013, I carried out an experiment to test if LSI was an important ranking factor.  I recorded a video of that experiment which you can watch here if you want to.  The results of that experiment were clear – LSI was not only important, it was essential to ranking in Google.

A year on, I decided to carry out a similar experiment to see if things had changed.  The results were very interesting.  I recorded a video with a summary of what I did and the results I got.

I bet you didn’t expect those results at the end?

As always, the tool I used for all of my analysis was Web Content Studio.

  1. Thank you for your continous work on the subject of theming, and providing the tools to analyze pages in this regard. I very much appreciate your analytic approach to content.

  2. I wonder how effective would theming will work in medium to low competition niches. Do you have any results in terms of ranking in google search results with pure themed article vs non-themed articles.

    Hi Andy,

As usual it’s an excellent presentation. I admire you for what you do. The sound is so soft I had a hard time trying to hear everything. Perhaps it’s my computer or I am getting hard of hearing. So don’t change anything because you are such a generous person, so different from the many I see online.

    1. Did you check the volume slider on the Youtube video itself? Each video has its own volume control, and don’t forget you have one on your computer as well. The sound is loud for me.

    Hi Andy,
Thanks for the video on LSI and Google. In your book you use the term niche vocabulary. Is this essentially equivalent to LSI i.e. that LSI uses a niche vocabulary? Have there been any leaks or otherwise that support this, apart from your experiments?

  5. Hi Andy,

I was interested in your ad about Hosting. The only problem is that the links are not clickable. Perhaps it is my computer …. or maybe there is a problem?

  6. Hello Dr. Andy,

You continue to astound me. My belief is that this presentation should be more interesting to high roller big money SEO types because it is graduate level stuff they ought to be paying you big money to explain to them. On the other hand, as always, your work shows that any peon like me with an interest in the finer points of SEO can compete.

I have an understanding of sorts and have employed your generous training to do pretty good off and on.

Sometime back you emphasized to me the importance of concentrating on the words rather than the phrases, and with this video, that makes more sense. In the main, I have a wicked sense of special empowerment from having hung out with you lo these many years and having had at my disposal your atomic powered WCS. But, I have said all of this before.

    Your continuing fan from Alabam

No Andy, the volume problem is on your end .. my laptop and the video were both at max volume and I had to hold the laptop close to me in order to hear. I appreciate the time you have spent in your experiments. It corroborates with my findings over the years and is also what I teach … Although these are some of my first comments, I’ve been getting your newsletter for a few years now … keep up the good work!!

    1. I don’t know what is going on here. I’ve tested the sound on 3 PCs, a Mac, an Android phone and an iPhone and all of them play the sounds quite loud. What OS are you running?
