Blog Site – A post based site with just a few pages.

Hybrid Site – Categorizing posts into groups and having a separate “announcement” blog.  Still using pages as they were meant to be used.

    Hi Andy,
I am following your book WordPress for beginners 2024 and the video tutorials. I have purchased the domain name and set this up on Bluehost however it is sending me through directly to WordPress and I am unable to find the ‘advanced’ button to change the SSL certificate over to the domain name. Can you help me please?

  2. Hi

I am near the end of your book WPfor Beg 2024. I cannot find the suggested udemy qaA so apologies if this is the wrong platform for this query. Your book is extremely informative, thank you.

I am trying to design a website for a small arts centre, your hybrid layout seems most suitable for my job. However I am confused on the following.
The arts centre runs film (art House screenings), theatre events (comedy, concerts, dance, piano etc) and exhibitions, I thought initially these would be different pages with posts assigned to each page. But I realise this does not make sense now.
I want the customer to decide on the cultural event they want info on ie theatre, film or exhibitions.

The centre runs a maximim of 3 to 4 events per month. The auditorium seats 99 people.

According to your hybrid layout should these 3 areas in the arts centre be set under 3 different categories or pages?

I want the customer to also have a choice when looking at these different cultural areas and importantly the customer needs to be able to make a booking and pay for their ticket. Surely a page is more suited to this task over a post. I wouldn’t think bookings could.be done via a post?

I look forward to your response.

    Thank you

    Susan

  3. Hello Dr. Williams,
I’m just getting started with WordPress v6.6.1. A few things have moved or disappeared since you wrote WordPress for Beginners 2024, including the WP-Insert plugin. It doesn’t appear to exist anymore. I installed a plugin called Legal Pages instead.
My current problem is with Yoast SEO. On p. 203 of the book, you have a screenshot for Yoast SEO that has three tabs across the top: SEO, Schema, and Social. I cannot find this screen anywhere. What I see when I click on Yoast SEO in the sidebar menu is a General – Yoast SEO page with two tabs: Dashboard and First-time configuration. There are no configurable options here, just two headings with the following text:
    ? Problems (0)
Good job! We could detect no serious SEO problems.
    ? Notifications (0)
    No new notifications.
If I click on the First-time configuration tab, I get what looks like an imported Yoast screen with
    SEO DATA OPTIMIZATION Edit
    SITE REPRESENTATION Edit
    SOCIAL PROFILES Edit
    PERSONAL PREFERENCES Edit
    FINISH CONFIGURATION
followed by a link to a Yoast SEO webinar.
Under Yoast SEO in the sidebar are several menu options but none of them produce the screen in the book. They include General, Settings, Integrations, Tools, Academy, Upgrades, Workouts [Premium], Redirects [Premium], Support.
I can’t find the SEO, Schema or Social tabs anywhere.

    Regards, Lisa Larkin

  4. Hi Andy,
As of WordPress 6.5 you can now change the site icon (favicon) directly from the General Settings screen. You no longer need to use the Site Editor or Customizer to make this change.

    Hi Dr. Williams,
Just a quick note to let you know that Akismet has a free option for non-profit organizations. Information is on their website. The easiest way to get to the information is to search for nonprofit on their website. This will bring up their Akismet for Nonprofit Organizations Guide. There is a 60,000 API call limit per month, and some documentation of non-profit status is required.
    Sincerely,
    Jennie Dishong

Nice of your publisher to slap a new cover on to say 2024. And you say updated December 21 2023. When you published that, the twenty-twenty one theme was not the latest and it is no longer available. So much for your discussion of working through it with you.

    1. The 2024 version was an update on the 2023 version. Yes, it was published at the end of 2023. What is the point of publishing it at the end of 2024 as everyone will want the 2025 version. And yes, the Twenty Twenty-One theme is still available.
